Warmed Sake: Results from the 2024 National Warmed Sake Contest

Updated 7 November 2026 · Originally published: 2024-08-20

Warming sake changes how its aroma, texture and flavour are perceived. The result depends on the sake and the temperature, so warming should not be described as a universal improvement. Tokkuri are serving flasks, while cups such as sakazuki are a separate part of the serving tradition.

The 16th National Warmed Sake Contest held its judging on 7 August 2024 in Tokyo. The organiser reports 939 entries and selected 48 Top Gold awards and 241 Gold awards, a total of 289. Its lukewarm categories were judged at 45°C and hot categories at 55°C.

The following eight results are drawn from the official 2024 list. ‘Value’ and ‘Premium’ identify the organiser’s entry categories for that year; they are not general rankings of a brewery’s products. Top Gold and Gold are distinguished explicitly.
