Vincent CHARLOT – Biodynamic cultivation –

Champagne is a winemaking region based on a multitude of vineyards historically owned by large Champagne Houses that have practiced the art of blending for decades. Champagne Houses are credited with bringing this region to its international status of being the most celebratory wine in the world. It is only in recent years that we see the grower producer movement begin to draw worldwide attention. Bringing light to terroir driven parcels and single varietal bottling in Champagne.

With only four hectares – 33 parcels distributed in six communes -, Vincent Charlot has become a master of organic and biodynamic viticulture.

He is one of the very few in the area to grow and make his own biodynamic preparations and is a strong advocate that any disease in the vineyard can be managed homeopathically.

Three Grand Cru villages of the Côte des Blancs — Avize, Cramant and Oger — meet in a single chardonnay, each lending its own voice to a wine that closes on a quiet, mentholated whisper distinct to the house.

WARIS-HUBERT Sophos

Named after the Greek word for "wise," this cuvée grows in a single Grand Cru plot in Avize called Les Maladries, where Chardonnay vines have stood for ninety to a hundred years. The 2016 harvest was marked by late frost and mildew pressure, cutting yields but concentrating what little fruit remained. Tilled by horse in the old way, the vineyard yields grapes that are fermented in oak and given years of quiet cellar time before release.

WARIS-HUBERT Blanche Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra-Brut Millésime 2017

Named by the owners of Waris-Hubert for their newborn daughter Blanche, this cuvée is built entirely from Chardonnay grown in Avize Grand Cru. After a long rest on its lees and a restrained dosage, it emerges less as an aperitif pour and more as a Champagne meant to hold its own at the table.

WARIS-HUBERT Succulente Rosé Premier Cru Brut

Succulente means lush, juicy — and this Waris-Hubert rosé lives up to its name by letting white grapes lead. Chardonnay from the chalk slopes of Grauves meets whole-cluster Pinot Noir from Bisseuil, two Premier Cru villages whose contrasting characters come together in a rosé built around red-fruit aromatics and a fine, fruity frame.

Estence takes its name from an Old French word meaning 'to sparkle' — and stands apart in the Waris-Hubert range as the house's only cuvée to bring Chardonnay and Pinot Noir together, grown on the Premier Cru slopes of Grauves.
