HANAFUDA no UMESHU

HANAFUDA no Umeshu is a craft umeshu from Nara Kasugayama Shuzo (formerly Yagi Shuzo) in Nara, Japan. Made with 100% Nara Nishi-yoshino green plums, it is built on an authentic shochu ottoji spirit base and fermented alcohol blend, positioned as a sessionable, food-friendly umeshu with a restrained sweetness profile. At roughly 12% ABV (some market lots are also shown as 14%), it delivers a clear, lively plum aroma, bright natural acidity, and a crisp finish that is less heavy than typical sweet umeshu. The extract level is around 18%, which helps keep it bright rather than syrupy. It is commonly available in 720 ml and 1800 ml sizes.

Culinary affinity: Its light texture and fresh plum acid profile pair well with Thai and Southeast Asian food: grilled fish, light seafood dishes, chicken skewers, som tam, tom yam, nam prik, and herb-forward starters. It also works well with warm dishes and mildly fatty foods because it can refresh the palate between bites without crowding the spice.
