CHÂTEAU DE GARNEROTTerres de Garnerot 2022

In 2018, two women from outside the wine trade took over a quiet Mercurey estate and began farming it their own way. Terres de Garnerot 2022 is the first vintage to carry the domaine's official organic certification — a regional Pinot Noir grown entirely on the estate's own land, made with patience rather than formula.

A Renaissance in Mercurey

Château de Garnerot sits in Mercurey, at the northern edge of Burgundy's Côte Chalonnaise. The estate's current chapter began in 2018, when Caroline Fyot, formerly in Paris insurance, and Alexia Russo, previously in international luxury retail, took charge of its vineyards and its winemaking. Both trained at the Lycée Viticole de Beaune before returning to work the land themselves.

Terres de Garnerot is made entirely from Pinot Noir grown on the domaine's own plots, farmed under the GFA Château de Garnerot. The 2022 vintage is the first to be released under the estate's official AB organic certification, marking a new phase in a farming philosophy built on hand-harvesting, indigenous-yeast fermentation and minimal cellar intervention.

At the table

Terres de Garnerot's regional, early-drinking Pinot Noir character makes it a flexible companion across Japanese, Thai and Western cuisines, best suited to dishes with gentle richness rather than heavy spice or char.

As a lighter-styled, early-drinking regional Burgundy, it favours preparations built on savoury depth and moderate seasoning rather than intense heat, so the wine's fruit and structure stay in balance with the plate.

Japanese

  • Yakitori with tare or shio glaze
  • Sukiyaki with a mild sweet-savoury broth
  • Grilled shiitake and maitake mushrooms

Why it worksThe savoury glaze and grilled character of yakitori, along with mushroom umami, sit comfortably with a lighter regional red rather than requiring more concentrated structure.

Thai

  • Mild massaman beef curry
  • Northern Thai sai oua sausage, lightly spiced
  • Chicken khao soi, mild version

Why it worksKept to milder spice levels, these dishes let the wine's fruit read clearly; dishes built on strong chilli and lime are better matched elsewhere.

Western

  • Charcuterie such as rillettes and jambon persillé
  • Roast chicken
  • Comté or Saint-Nectaire cheese

Why it worksClassic Burgundian charcuterie, poultry and washed-rind cheeses reflect the everyday register this regional cuvée was made for.

Winemaking

Grapes are picked by hand into open crates and sorted before fermentation, which proceeds spontaneously with indigenous yeasts over roughly eight days, with extraction managed through pumping-over and punch-downs. The wine is bottled without fining or filtration.

Product detail

The cuvée comes exclusively from Pinot Noir on the domaine's own vineyards, trained using Guyot Simple and Guyot Poussard methods from massal-selection vines, and is the first vintage produced under the estate's official AB organic certification.
