Domaine Grand Veneur
DOMAINE GRAND VENEURLe Miocène 2021

About the Domaine and the Cuvée
Domaine Grand Veneur is part of Vignobles Alain Jaume, a family estate whose vineyard history traces back to 1826, when Mathieu Jaume first planted vines in Châteauneuf-du-Pape; the domaine itself was formally established in 1979 by Odile and Alain Jaume.
Le Miocène takes its name from the Miocene-era geology beneath the vineyard, where alpine-deposited galets rest above ancient marine marl — a structure that shapes this Grenache-led blend of Syrah and Mourvèdre.

BG wine structure estimate
Comparative profile within the Bacchus Global wine range.
Ripe plum, cassis and black raspberry with crushed graphite, tobacco, menthol and pepper spice
Medium-to-full-bodied and concentrated, with fine, youthful tannins and refined acidity; the finish carries smoky spice and kirsch
Dark ruby

Temperature
16°C is recommended; temperatures above 18°C tend to accentuate alcohol warmth and mute the wine's acidity and mineral edge
Timing
In its current young state, decanting approximately one hour beforehand is suggested; the wine is expected to drink well into the mid-2030s, based on the vintage's structure
Glassware
A large-bowled glass suited to Southern Rhône reds
At the table
This wine's structure — fine tannin, ripe fruit and a smoky, spiced finish — guides pairings across three culinary traditions.
Rather than aiming for exact matches, each pairing plays with a different facet of the wine's profile: umami richness, gentle spice, or the tannin and savor of classic French game dishes.
Japanese
- Wagyu roast beef
- Sukiyaki with a mild sweet-savory glaze
- Roast duck
Why it worksWagyu's fat and umami echo the wine's ripe fruit and fine tannin structure; sukiyaki's gentle sweetness meets its smoky spice, while roast duck's richness balances the wine's medium-to-full body.
Thai
- Mild Massaman beef curry
- Smoky, charcoal-grilled Isaan dishes
- Squab or game-based tasting menus
Why it worksMassaman's gentle spice mirrors the wine's own pepper notes, and charcoal-grilled Isaan dishes echo its smoky finish; sharper chili-and-lime dishes are best avoided, as they can unbalance the wine's acidity and tannin.
Western
- Roast venison with sauce grand veneur
- Lamb confit
- Truffle-topped ribeye steak
Why it worksClassic French game and lamb preparations meet the wine's tannin structure and long spiced finish, while truffle notes echo its graphite and tobacco complexity.

Winemaking
Grapes are hand-harvested and hand-sorted, fermented at a controlled maximum of 30°C in stainless steel with 18–20 days of skin contact, then aged separately in concrete, largely for the Grenache, and oak for the Syrah and Mourvèdre.
