SABUROMARU IV The Emperor

SABUROMARU IV The Emperor is a Japanese single malt whisky from Wakatsuru Shuzo’s Saburomaru Distillery in Tonami, Toyama. The standard 48% ABV edition uses heavily peated Highland malt at 50 PPM, fermented in Canadian Douglas fir washbacks and distilled twice in Saburomaru’s ZEMON cast copper-tin alloy pot still. Matured mainly in bourbon casks for approximately four years, it is bottled at 700 ml, non-chill-filtered and without added colouring. The profile combines firm peat smoke, rounded malt, polished oak sweetness, and a controlled finish.

Culinary affinity: Its Highland peat smoke and rounded malt depth complement charcoal-grilled wagyu, duck, lamb, smoked seafood, grilled eel, aged cheese, roasted nuts, dark chocolate, and Thai grilled meat with herbs or gentle spice. The 48% ABV structure also suits neat, on-the-rocks, or highball service.
