SLEEPY ELEPHANT 22 is a barrel-aged rice shochu-based liqueur from Satsuma Shuzo in Makurazaki, Kagoshima. It uses 22-year matured rice shochu as the base and includes 41-year matured stock in the blend, creating a long-aged amber profile with vanilla, roasted grain, caramel, wood aroma, light smoke, and a smooth lingering finish. In Japan, it is bottled as a liqueur because the cask-derived color exceeds the color limit for honkaku shochu, and the producer keeps that color-forward character as part of its profile.

Culinary affinity: Its smooth rice sweetness, caramel, roasted-grain, and wood-spice profile pairs well with massaman curry, grilled seafood, yakitori-style skewers, smoked dishes, caramel desserts, and dark chocolate. It also works well in rock serve, premium soda highball, or quiet after-dinner pours.
