SLEEPY BEAR 22 is a barrel-aged sweet potato shochu-based liqueur from Satsuma Shuzo in Makurazaki, Kagoshima. It uses 22-year matured imo shochu aged in North American white oak, developing a deep amber color, oak sweetness, vanilla, caramel, dark chocolate, gentle smoke, and mature sweet-potato depth. In Japan, it is bottled as a liqueur because the cask-derived color exceeds the color limit for honkaku shochu, and the producer keeps that barrel-aged character as part of its profile.

Culinary affinity: Its rich oak, caramel, and dark-sweet profile pairs well with dark chocolate, vanilla ice cream, pistachio macarons, duck, foie gras, rich grilled meat, and caramelized desserts. It also works well in quiet after-dinner service, rock serve, or a premium soda highball.
