HÉRITAGE DU PIC SAINT LOUPSainte Agnès 2022

In a valley between the limestone peaks of Pic Saint-Loup and the Hortus plateau, the Ravaille family tends old bush vines to craft this Syrah-led cuvée. Minimal-intervention winemaking — wild yeasts, very low sulphite — draws out its smoky leather and ripe fruit character.

About Sainte Agnès

Héritage du Pic Saint Loup (formerly Ermitage du Pic Saint Loup) is a family domaine run by the three Ravaille brothers, with Sainte Agnès positioned in the mid-range of their portfolio, between the entry-level Tour de Pierres and the flagship Guilhem Gaucelm.

The vineyards sit within AOC Pic Saint-Loup, in a valley framed by the 658m Pic Saint-Loup peak and the 512m Hortus plateau, on a mosaic of limestone, clay, marl and dolomite soils.

At the table

The wine's smoky leather, ripe fruit and black pepper character works well with grilled, spiced and richly savoury dishes.

Its structure and dark fruit suit dishes with char, spice or fat, while its garrigue-inflected profile bridges Mediterranean and Asian herbal notes without overwhelming milder preparations.

Japanese

  • Charcoal-grilled wagyu
  • Duck breast
  • Sansho pepper lamb chops

Why it worksThe smoky leather and black pepper notes echo the char and spice of grilled preparations.

Thai

  • Mild massaman curry
  • Moo yang (grilled pork)
  • Mild panang curry

Why it worksThe wine's garrigue herbal notes complement Thai spicing, though very sweet or very spicy dishes are best avoided.

Western

  • Roast rack of lamb
  • Duck confit
  • Aged Comté cheese

Why it worksRipe fruit and structured tannins match the richness of lamb and duck.
