KOKUTO DE LEQUIO Kokuto Liqueur is a Japanese brown-sugar liqueur developed by SG Group, Shinhou Shuzo, and OneSpirit under the direction of Shogo Gokan. Shinhou Shuzo was founded in Naha, Okinawa, in 1848. Launched in 2023 as the first release in the KOKUTO DE LEQUIO series, the liqueur combines Ryukyu awamori fermented with sakura yeast, a small amount of brown-sugar rum, and two Okinawan kokuto sugars from Iriomote and Yonaguni. Bottled at 20% ABV in a 500 ml format, it is dry and layered, with molasses depth and restrained sweetness that make it a versatile cocktail modifier.
Culinary affinity: Its relatively dry balance works well in Old Fashioned, Negroni, and Espresso Martini variations, where it can replace heavier sweeteners without obscuring bitterness. It also complements roasted nuts, caramelized tropical fruit, and delicately seasoned fish or shellfish when used with restraint.
