The Estate
Château La Croix Saint-Georges belongs to Famille Joseph Janoueix, whose wine trade traces back to F. Janoueix's founding of a Margaux-based house in 1898. The Pomerol property itself was acquired by the family in 1932, and its winemaking has been guided on-site by Jean-Philippe Janoueix since 1999. He later built dedicated cellars for a wine that had once been vinified at a neighboring château.
The vineyard sits on the Pomerol plateau, sharing borders with Le Pin, Petit Village and Pétrus. Its gravel-and-clay soils drain quickly, pushing vines to root deep in search of water and coolness, while planting density reaches up to 12,000 vines per hectare — among the highest in the appellation.

From cellar to bottle
Winemaking
Grapes are moved by gravity into open wooden vats without crushing, then fermented across four 70-hectoliter vats with Burgundian-style pigeage. Malolactic fermentation takes place in barrel, followed by 16 to 20 months of aging in new French oak, part of it in cigar-shaped barrels favored by the estate.
Product detail
The 2021 blend is 95% Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc, grown on 4.5 hectares of gravel-and-clay soil planted at densities up to 12,000 vines per hectare.
Origin & Terroir
The estate's façade carries a carved figure of Saint Georges on horseback, a reference to the property's historic ties to the Knights Hospitaller of St John of Jerusalem.
