Pure folie – Liqueur et Gin

Here is yet another bold invention of this Master Distiller magician, an ode to strawberry in the form of a liquor of great elegance, combining character and vivacity.

On its right bank, on the site of its former bed, which is now contained by a structure called “La Levée”, an earthen embankment, or dike, that took a thousand years to build, the distillery harvests blackcurrants, a small black fruit with a deep, inimitable taste, strawberries and elderflowers, wildflowers that grow naturally on a shrub common to the region.

A little history. It was Napoleon who completed the work begun in the 9th century by monks and later aided by Dutch engineers, by employing convicts, prisoners to whom he offered freedom and a small house after a long period of expiatory work. These little houses still exist today, and form one of the pages of the history of this pharaonic work.

On its left bank, naturally contained by the hills that border it – including the Coteaux du Layon, where the Patrick Baudoin vineyard, one of our partner producers, is located – the distillery harvests vine peaches, a variety of small, very juicy and very sweet peaches, bunches of Chenin, rose petals and cherries.

All this extraordinary profusion of flowers and fruit that Nature, almost untouched, unfurls on the banks of this bewitching river, this “Grande Dame” that is the Loire. The fruits of untouched beauty that we are delighted to present to you.

So, let’s hear it for Gourmands and Gourmets, lovers of beautiful and elegant things and other hedonists! Liqueur “Pure Folie” is a veritable concentrate of gourmandise! A highly successful marriage of strawberry, that juicy, fragrant little fruit typical of the upper Loire Valley grown in the sands of the ancient river bed, Chenin, the king grape of the great white wines of the Upper Loire, dark chocolate, ginger, peppermint and a few other spices whose list, as you might guess, remains a secret.

Its touch of vivacity brought by the Chenin, coupled with a subtle touch of spices, make it a concentrate of spicy sweetness with a well-tempered character, a perfect partner for cocktails and desserts alike.
