About the Wine
Rully 1er Cru Cloux Rouge comes from a single parcel on the steep slope below the Raclot and Rabourcé climats, planted with mature Pinot Noir vines in clay-limestone soil.
The estate favors a natural approach to winemaking, using whole-cluster fermentation and aging in demi-muid and barrel without new oak to let the fruit and site speak for themselves.

At the table
The wine's fruit-forward core and structured tannin suit dishes built around grilled or slow-cooked proteins, echoed across several culinary traditions.
Producer notes point to game birds, roasted red meats and washed-rind cheeses such as Reblochon and Cantal as natural partners; the same structural logic — charcoal, umami and mid-weight protein — extends comfortably into Japanese and Thai grilled dishes.
Japanese
- Roast duck breast (kamo rosu)
- Seared lean wagyu tataki
- Simmered vegetables and meat, nishime-style
Why it worksIron-rich, lightly charred duck and beef echo the wine's raspberry fruit, while its supple tannin and umami-friendly acidity carry through soy-based simmered dishes.
Thai
- Charcoal-grilled duck (pet yang)
- Charcoal-grilled beef (nuea yang)
- Charcoal-grilled chicken (gai yang)
Why it worksSimply seasoned, charcoal-grilled proteins let the wine's structure and minerality come through without competing against heavy chili or fish-sauce-forward sauces.
Western
- Roasted game birds such as pigeon or guinea fowl
- Roasted red meats
- Washed-rind cheeses such as Reblochon or Cantal
Why it worksThese are the estate's own pairing suggestions, matching the wine's fruit and fine tannin to gamey poultry, roasted meat and richer, washed-rind cheese textures.
From cellar to bottle
Winemaking
Grapes are hand-harvested and rigorously sorted, then fermented 100% whole-cluster using native yeast, following the estate's broader philosophy of natural, minimal-intervention winemaking.
Product detail
The wine ages 12–18 months in demi-muid and barrel without new oak, followed by 2–6 months in bottle before release. The 2020 vintage documentation notes this parcel is in its third year of conversion to organic farming, reflecting the estate's longstanding organic approach.
Origin
Rully lies in the Côte Chalonnaise and counts 23 Premier Cru climats; Cloux lies on the steep ground just below Raclot and Rabourcé.
