Black Cocktails, Two Expressions|Halloween 2026 in Bangkok
Dark liquid and a face-shaped decoration. Place photographs of two Halloween cocktails side by side, and differences emerge in the shape of the glass and the placement of the garnish. A rounded stemmed glass and a tall, slender one give black two distinct expressions.
The photographs show Fantome du Salon from Bangkok’s Salon du Japonisant and SHADOW from KOUJI ALCHEMIST by Salon du Japonisant. Looking at the listed ingredients where available, and at the relationship between glass and decoration, offers a way to explore how each interprets the seasonal theme.
Fantome du Salon|A Face above a Rounded Glass

Fantome du Salon, from Salon du Japonisant on Sukhumvit 39, holds dark liquid in a rounded stemmed glass. In the photograph, a pale face-shaped decoration sits on the rim. Its eyes, nose and mouth have visible contours, with a touch of red drawing attention. Against the dark background, the face seems to emerge into view.
The ingredients are Sakurao dry gin, Umenoyado lychee, wild berry, lemon, bamboo charcoal and soda. The gin forms the base, combined with lychee, berries and lemon, with bamboo charcoal also included.
The black appearance alone does not reveal this combination of fruits. Returning to the photograph with the ingredients in mind makes it possible to distinguish the impression of the colour from the composition of the drink. The small bubbles visible near the surface provide another visual detail that connects with the soda on the ingredient list.
SHADOW|A White Circle above a Black Silhouette

KOUJI ALCHEMIST by Salon du Japonisant, on Lang Suan, presents the theme LIGHT & SHADOW. Its official announcement gives the dates as October 27 to 31, 2026, and introduces two counterparts: LIGHT, representing brightness, and SHADOW, representing darkness.
In the photograph of SHADOW, a white circular decoration bearing a face rests on top of a tall glass. Black eyes and a mouth, with purple markings. The dark liquid seen through the sides of the glass contrasts sharply with the white surface above it.
The face on Fantome du Salon is three-dimensional and extends out from the rim. On SHADOW, the face sits within a flat circle, positioned as though meeting the gaze of someone looking down. The same motif takes on a different character when seen from the side or slightly from above.
SHADOW’s official description does not list its ingredients or proportions. Rather than infer what produces its colour or how it tastes, the photograph invites attention to the relationship between glass, colour and decoration.
Seasonal Expression in Colour and Form
Seen together, the two photographs show how more than the colour black contributes to the Halloween theme. A rounded glass and a tall, narrow one; a sculpted face and a flat image. The outline of each vessel and the position of its decoration shape its appearance.
Fantome du Salon is introduced as an individual cocktail name, while SHADOW is named as a counterpart to LIGHT. Alongside the forms visible in the photographs, the naming offers another point of difference.
Black cocktails provide a common starting point, but their expression is far from uniform. These two photographs capture different approaches by Bangkok bars to giving a seasonal theme a tangible form through a glass and a small decoration.
