D. Gruhier, Bourgogne Epineuil

Our company exports wines from small French Domains who honour their Terroirs. We adopt, with conviction, the formula of St Exupéry, the author of Le Petit Prince: “We do not inherit this land from our ancestors. We borrow it from our children.”

To us, wine is more than a commodity. We are convinced that wine, a living product, eases and embellishes people’s lives. Offers the chance to discover new human horizons. Our website aims to be informative, educational and, more often than not, entertaining.

While we don’t advocate any particular winemaking method or any type of “ideal” wine, we pay particular attention to winegrowers who have a keen awareness of their environment and an ardent concern to preserve it. To women and men who produce fine quality wines with ardent personality. Healthy and alive wines, connected to their Terroir. Wines whose voice can be heard

Dominique Gruhier is one of those. It’s now time to introduce him to you. And to present you the Bourgogne Epineuil AOC (Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée).

Bourgogne Epineuil et Bourgogne Tonnerre AOC

The village of Epineuil is located 10 minutes northeast of Chablis. The AOC Bourgogne Epineuil, created in 1993, is intended for red and rosé wines produced in the town of Epineuil.

Reds are produced from pinot noir, while rosé wines can be produced from Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris. The area planted is 88 hectares only in red, 8ha in rosé.

Bourgogne Tonnerre is the regional AOC for whites, on an area that includes six villages: Tonnerre, Epineuil, Junay, Vézinnes, Dannemoine and Molosmes. The AOC was created in 2006. Before, white wines were also part of the AOC Bourgogne Epineuil. White wines are produced from chardonnay. Only 38 hectares are planted.

The Crémant produced in Epineuil fall under the appellation Crémant de Bourgogne.

Back story

« I am the custodian of an over 800 years old heritage”

This is how he presents himself:

“Our story begins in 1212, when, following a donation from the Lord of Tonnerre in 1212, the Cistercian monks of Quincy Abbey, identified Epineuil – 10 minutes northeast of Chablis – as an exceptionally suitable terroir for quality wine production. Aware of the great potential of the neighbouring hillsides, they built what has become my Domaine.

Since 1990, inspired by the path they blazed, I’ve been following in their footsteps to bring this setting to life and cultivate our land, which is rich in biodiversity, using organic methods. A method, as its name suggests, that respects Life: the life of the soil,

My wines are close to their nature: at the crossroads of rigour and freedom, between purity and vibrancy. They are a hymn to the pleasure of tasting and sharing.”
