Exploring the Elegance of Japan in a Bottle
Japanese craft gin attracts connoisseurs from all over the world with its unique charm and innovation. What we are introducing here is truly a perfect combination of Japan’s beautiful nature and classic botanicals.
“Sasshu Gin” is characterized by its use of the Japanese citrus fruit “sour pomelo”. The refreshing and mellow aroma of sour pomelo is carefully extracted by the vapor infusion process. This process is ideal for bringing out the delicate aroma of citrus fruits without losing any of its flavor ingredients.
In addition, this gin is blended with a total of 14 botanicals, including “juniper berry,” loquat leaf, and wormwood. The harmony of these botanicals creates a spicy top note and lingering cherry chips in the finish.
Another major unique feature is the use of “authentic sweet potato shochu” as the base spirit. This sweet potato shochu is carefully blended using two different methods to maximize the characteristics of the botanicals, which are selected from the rich aroma of Kagoshima, southern Kyushu. This has resulted in an elegant Japanese craft gin with a classical flavor and a Japanese impression.
The production of this gin takes place in Sasshu (now western Kagoshima Prefecture), a place of tradition and innovation. Sasshu is known for its mild climate and volcanic ash soil, and botanicals grown here are used. These local ingredients, combined with more than 500 years of traditional techniques, create a spirit that is truly “Kagoshima.
A unique approach to the production of this gin is the use of potato shochu and kouji (malted rice). This manufacturing method was intentionally chosen so that people outside of Japan can experience the culture and climate of Japan. The creators are presenting this gin to the world with great ambition, with the goal of creating a product with a Japanese feeling.
This Japanese craft gin is more than just a liquor. It has its own unique characteristics. The difference from a typical gin is in the botanicals used. Japanese Gin uses materials unique to Japan. For example,
Yuzu
Green tea
Cherry leaves and flowers
Hinoki (Japanese cypress)
These unique Japanese ingredients bring a unique flavor and aroma to gin, creating a refreshing and complex taste. The manufacturing process is another important factor. Japanese gin makers use precise and careful distillation techniques to fine-tune the flavor. This produces a smooth, well-balanced gin. Simply speaking, Japanese gin is a gin with a unique flavor and aroma that cannot be found anywhere else, thanks to the use of botanicals unique to Japan and a delicate manufacturing process. This is the main difference between Japanese gin and standard gin.
